Letters from J.K. Street (My Great Great Grandfather) to his wife Ninnie, (Melinda Elizabeth Pace Street) during the Civil War. His letters are written in diary style and tell of his day to day life in the 9th Texas Infantry, Co A. from Paris, Lamar Co., Texas.
Almost 100 letters in the J.K. Street Collection. The letters include numerous names and dates of death listed in Ron Brothers 9th Texas Infantry list. As well as the accounts of the Battles of Shiloh, Perryville, Murfreesboro and letters while J.K. Street was a prisoner at Vicksburg and the Irving Block.
This is a book filled with 248 pages of poetry, romance, religion, fear, death, history and genealogy. J.K. Street was a Chaplain and writer. He tells of his travels, personal thoughts, camp life and conditions of the camps, hospitals and cities. He mentions in his letters that he wants his wife to be sure to keep all of his letters; maybe he knew that someday, his GG Granddaughter would find them and transcribe them for the world to see!
